In REDO for Positive Change & Transformation

Why Recover? It allows your body to heal, repair, and replenish your energy to return to a state of health and vitality.

How many times do you say these things to others? “Get well,” “Hope you’ll pull through,” “I know you’ll make progress.” How about saying these same words of encouragement to yourself?

While recovery is normally associated with regaining health after an illness, an addiction, or an injury, it applies to an unlimited number of scenarios and experiences which can set you back, keep you stuck, and cause suffering in your life.

Recovery is the affirmative outcome you’ll enjoy once you have moved through a setback and arrived successfully on the other side. The sooner you find ways to achieve solutions for recovery, the faster you will regain vitality, hope, and well-being.

5 Ways to Begin Recovery

  1. Create the time, space, and place for allowing you to recover; rest, breathe, reflect, and forgive.
  2. Acknowledge what you are feeling; avoid denial.
  3. Focus on the positives; what is, not what isn’t.
  4. Be introspective about what could have been different, what you control, and can do to begin to recover. Surround yourself with uplifting people, see a therapist or counseling professional, or visit a support group.
  5. Take actions which will strengthen, bolster, empower, and support you in your recovery.

You lead a very busy and productive life, or most likely you wouldn’t be reading this book. I would bet that you often burn the candle at both ends. The first step, when you feel depleted, choose to make time for recovery or you will not able to continue at a normal pace. Take an occasional sick day from work and nurture mind, body and soul—to recover your ability to give 100 percent plus on the job!

Self-nurture by lying on the couch in your pajamas all day—sleep, eat, watch TV, read—and simply rest. Give yourself permission to slow down and recover. Begin identifying other ways that you can self-nurture and recover from what life has to throw at you.

For some people, it’s taking a walk in nature. For others, it is eating healthy and exercising.  What are some other things that you can do to recover and feel your best? When you are feeling unhappy, stressed, or imbalanced, make your recovery a priority.

“We live in a world that celebrates work and activity, ignores renewal and recovery, and fails to recognize that both are necessary for sustained high performance.”   —Jim Loehr
