In REVIEW for Positive Change & Transformation

Why Reappraise? As values change, reappraisal keeps you informed, enlightened, and aware of something’s worth.

For sixteen years, I enjoyed a prosperous real estate career. Regardless of what price my sellers may have purchased their homes for originally, the current marketplace determined their home’s value when it came time to sell. As conditions change, new appraisals are needed.

Using this analogy in your own life, ask yourself what needs to be reappraised to determine its current value.

  • Are there things which you valued greatly in the past which are now worthless to you? Acknowledge them without regret or guilt and adjust your activities and energy to align with what you now value.
  • Are the people around you adding value or diminishing it? Consider loosening or tightening your boundaries with them accordingly.
  • Is your career de-valuing your talents and efforts by not utilizing your strengths? Recognize the worth of the strengths you possess and consider these if you seek a career change.
  • Are you investing in yourself to improve your sense of value and self-worth? Investing in self-enrichment and improvement is an insurance of sorts; it will empower and protect you in case of sudden change or calamity.

While enduring massive life changes filled with trauma and drama throughout the economic tsunami of 2008, I felt like the Queen of Calamity. As our real estate values plummeted and investment accounts evaporated, the fear was so great it made me physically ill. I was too ashamed and embarrassed to reach out for help and kept my suffering a secret.

I felt like I was treading water and could not find a solid bottom upon which to stand. Once the storm finally passed, it took incredible courage to assess the collateral damage and accept this unfamiliar reality. It required reappraising the values in my life so that I would know what resources were available to help me rise again. By thoughtfully reappraising aspects of your life, you too will gain insight into what holds value and truly matters.

“Rock bottom became the solid foundation upon which I rebuilt my life.”

—JK Rowling
