Why Refresh? Going “out with the old and in with the new” resets our buttons and revives and prepares us to take on what’s next with energy and vigor.
“Rest when you’re weary. Refresh and renew yourself, your body, your mind, your spirit. Then get back to work.”
—Ralph Marston
My friend Mona and her family had a fish tank for many years. It had not been cleaned in a while and was getting rather yucky. The fish looked sad, their colors had become dull, and they were not very active. One morning Mona decided, “today is the day” and took the time to refresh it with clean water. After gently moving the fish into a temporary home, she poured out the putrid water. All that was left were the slimy glass walls and poop-filled gravel. And her work began.
Each time she poured in clean water to wash off the gravel, she had to stir up the fish poop to ensure it was removed. Wash, rinse, repeat. After all of the yuck had been stirred up and washed away, she was able to refill the tank with crystal clear, properly conditioned water and return the fish to their home.
When her husband returned home and saw the tank, he asked, “Did you get new fish today?” She replied, “No, they’re the same fish, but they just got new water.” Quite amazing, because once the gunk was washed away, the fish not only regained their vibrant colors, but their enthusiastic energy returned as well. That’s the beauty of being refreshed.
What gunk needs to be washed away and refreshed in your life? What yucky stuff has created a stagnant and negative environment that muddies your waters and depletes your energy? Are you ready to stir things up and make it messy so that you can wash it all away to live a more colorful and vibrant life?
If you know how to “refresh” your computer, you can imagine doing the same in your life. Hitting the refresh button resets your activities, employs changes, and installs updates It brings everything current in seconds.
My friend Joy is a webmaster. Although we live in different cities, we can work on my website simultaneously. She will make changes on her end, which I do not see on my end. Once she has made the improvements, she will say, “Okay, hit refresh.” And magically before my eyes, everything she has edited and updated shows up—voilà!
What buttons do you need to push, or not allow others to mess with or push, to refresh the changes you want to see in yourself and your world? What needs to be reset to give you a more viable outcome?
“Refresh your mind, clear your problems, and just have fun today.”
