Why Restart? It is time to get unstuck from the muck and get moving again.

“Starting all over again is not that bad . . .  You get another chance to make things right.”

—Ryan Ferreras

Things sometimes come to a grinding halt without warning! Do you ever feel that you’ve been stopped dead in your tracks? That you’ve fallen and you can’t get up? That you’re stuck in a rut or wading in muck? Paralysis, inertia, and apathy can be disabling and disempowering. What is it going to take for you to restart your engine and get moving again? Life rewards action, so rev up your resilience and get rolling. Have the fearlessness to start again.

Cooling off Period

When an engine runs hot, it is wise to turn it off for a while to let it cool down. You might even have to go as far as to douse it with water or cap off the coolant. It is wise to take precautions before restarting the engine to ensure its safety, stability, and recovery.

Changes in your own life can occur as an unsettling shock to your system and it’s best to cool down before making any new decisions. Before you pull yourself completely out of the muck on your restart to recovery, it is wise to create the space to get grounded. Release the old, feel the painful emotions, process the grief, finish off the fear, and accept the changes which have happened to you before starting out on the road again.

What Requires a Restart?

  • Leaving home for the first time.
  • Starting from scratch after bankruptcy.
  • Moving into a new home or neighborhood.
  • Starting over after a divorce or the loss of a loved one.
  • Creating a new life when your children have left home and your nest is empty.
  • Changing careers and working in a different town, industry, or environment.
  • Feeling a sudden loss of identity and purpose after retirement.

Rebooting

When your computer gets overwhelmed and overloaded, its ability to function well is diminished. A rebooting may be needed to improve its performance and increase its capacity. It gives it a chance to clean out the old, restart all systems to the reliable default, install the latest updates, and apply the new changes the user indicates they want. Likewise, sometimes we would do well to “reboot.”

Ask yourself: As I read above the processes that occur when a computer undergoes a ‘re-boot,’ what adjustments would benefit me in a personal rebooting?

Getting a Jumpstart

Do you ever feel as if your own battery is drained and lifeless? When you’re having trouble getting your engine started again, you might need to call for help. Your help may arrive by calling a wise friend, hiring a consultant or coach, talking to a counselor, hearing a motivational talk, reading a great book, or joining a new group. Or, a jumpstart may come through to you as answered prayer. Regardless of who, how, or what it is going to take, jumpstart your journey so that you can start moving in the direction of your greater good and your dreams.

“No matter how hard the past, you can always begin again.”
