Why Remember? It brings forward wisdom, thoughts, feelings, and details which will reliably guide you in your current life changes and choices.

          Can you remember? Sure you can. Think of a time when you felt happy, competent, healthy, powerful, successful, capable, vibrant, energetic, strong, confident, or serene. If none of these adjectives describe you, come up with ones that do! Now, step back into your memory, and remember what it felt like when you inwardly felt that way and outwardly put it into action. Breathe in the memory of that time in your life, feel it, and recreate it. What you once felt can come forward and be felt again.

If you are ever in a place where change has disrupted your flow or shifted your once solid foundation, you can use your memories to re-ground you. As if brick-by-brick, bring these positive emotions and previous actions forward. Remembering and reliving your memories will influence your mind and change your current state—and begin to get you unstuck.

Many writers, me included, will experience writer’s block which shuts down our flow of inspiring ideas and creativity. While attending the Hay House Writer’s Conference in Chicago, Nancy Levin, author of Jump and Your Life Will Appear, guided us through a powerful writing prompt. The exercise helped us get unstuck, and get back to writing with enthusiasm and energy.

Nancy asked all of us to pull out a piece of paper and at the top, simply write, “I remember. . . ” She then gave us five minutes to write as fast as we could about a significant memory in our past. We were to fill as many pages as possible in that limited timeframe. The exercise was transformational for me and the others. This personally creative exercise spurred our memories to remind us that our own life’s experience is a rich and wondrous resource for remembering possibility and probability for our life.

Remember that you are a unique creation designed for a sole purpose; you bring as much value as any other person on earth.

When and if you’re feeling fear, remember a time when you were courageous and brave. When you’re feeling sad, remember a time of laughter and joy. If you ever feel lonely and unloved, remember a time when you were embraced and fulfilled by loved ones. These memories can help you transition through a change with gratitude and strength.

8 Things to Remember to Thrive in Life

  1. Remember people’s names to make them feel important.
  2. Remember happy times to comfort you during life’s challenges, changes, or difficulties.
  3. Remember important dates to demonstrate to others that they are special and bring value to your life.
  4. Remember mistakes from your past to help prevent you from repeating them.
  5. Remember your blessings to be more appreciative and grateful.
  6. Remember your truest self to be more authentic, humble, compassionate, and kind.
  7. Remember your successes to fortify you when you stumble.
  8. Remember to listen to become a better communicator.
