Why Reaccelerate? When we lose momentum and stop moving toward our dreams—or are unable to function normally in our day—it’s time to pick ourselves up, turn our engines on and get going!
“Amplifying what is great within you will accelerate your life faster than fixing what you think ‘limits’ you.”
—Brendan Burchard
Slow Down to Go Fast
Sometimes you will find it necessary to de-accelerate when life gets crazy or veers out of control—to rejuvenate. Slowing down will provide you with the opportunity to make time to review, regroup, reroute, and decide how to turn the corner or change direction. While slowing down comes with incredible benefits to reduce stress, if you stay there too long, you may become stuck or stranded. When everything comes to a grinding halt it can sometimes be hard to generate the energy to get rolling again and the dreaded procrastination sets in.
Fighting Inertia (apathy & sluggishness)
When a plane is on the ground, it will take more energy, fuel, and effort to get it up and in the air than it will take to sustain its flight. The same can be said about going to the gym. Getting off the couch and driving there is usually harder than the workout you receive once you arrive. Why do we tend to gravitate to the line of least resistance? It is easy to get stuck in inertia if we don’t have the sheer will and determination to bust through it, increase our speed, and get moving.
Shifting Gears
Successfully shifting gears to get moving again, requires you are wanting to do so, with synchronization, coordination, and a change of pace, whether starting off slow or fast. It is your ability to respond to circumstances to ensure controlled acceleration. When you have mindful awareness, both for yourself and your environment, your emotional intelligence will guide you on what level of acceleration is needed.
Building Momentum
“It is never the size of your problem that is the problem. It’s a lack of momentum.” —John Maxwell
To build up your speed and create momentum, do you need to be pushed or pulled? Sometimes, it is simply a matter of shaking up your routine to get things rolling in the right direction.
In The Compound Effect: Jumpstart Your Income, Your Life, Your Success, Darren Hardy recommends building momentum by consistently performing a series of smart and small steps. While a consistent routine of positive habits will help lead you to success, you will get farther faster by shaking up your day. Do something different. Try something new.
7 Ways to Build Momentum
“The rhythm of daily action aligned with your goals creates the momentum that separates dreamers from super-achievers.”
—Darren Hardy
- Create a morning routine; wake up early, start strong.
- Set realistic goals and track your benchmarks.
- Create a series of successful endings, not beginnings.
- Acknowledge and affirm small contributions.
- Focus on solutions more than problems.
- Have positive expectations for probable wins.
- Focus on strengths rather than weaknesses.
Reaccelerate to your heart’s content, because…
“There are no speed limits on the road to success.”
